7 Ways I Use Essential Oils for Wellness in Rural Life

Out here in the country, I try to keep things simple, natural, and purposeful — and essential oils are one of my favorite tools for everyday wellness. Whether I’m dealing with stress, sore muscles, or just wanting to make our home smell fresh and inviting, oils are part of my daily rhythm.

Here’s how I actually use essential oils in real life — no fluff, no complicated routines, just real wellness from the middle of nowhere.

1. Morning Clarity Blend

Before I dive into work, I roll on a blend of peppermint and wild orange to help me wake up and stay focused. I keep a roller bottle by my coffee station — it’s a small ritual that signals my day is beginning with intention.

My go-to blend:

  • 3 drops peppermint

  • 3 drops wild orange

  • Fill roller with fractionated coconut oil

2. Stress Relief in the Chaos

When things get busy (or overwhelming), I roll lavender and frankincense on my wrists and neck. It instantly helps me breathe deeper and slow down — even if the house is noisy or I’m balancing too much.

3. Sleep Support at Night

We diffuse cedarwood + lavender in the bedroom before bed. It’s grounding, calming, and smells like peace. I also rub a bit of Vetiver on the bottoms of my feet when I need deeper rest.

4. Non-Toxic Cleaning

I make a simple all-purpose spray with lemon, tea tree, and white vinegar. It smells amazing and keeps the house clean without harsh chemicals.

My simple recipe:

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup white vinegar

  • 10 drops lemon

  • 10 drops tea tree

  • Add to a glass spray bottle and shake before use

5. Seasonal Support

Living in a rural area means we’re surrounded by pollen, dust, and changing weather. I use a blend of lemon, lavender, and peppermint (the "trio") in a roller bottle for seasonal sniffles and itchy eyes.

6. Mindset

I diffuse frankincense and bergamot. It helps me stay present, grounded, and spiritually centered.

7. Making the House Smell Like a Home

I love blending oils that feel like the seasons — clove + orange in the fall, eucalyptus + mint in the summer, cinnamon + pine at Christmas. It makes the whole house feel warm and alive.
